This is my latest item for sale! The winter-time babywearing poncho! It’s so warm n’ toasty, stylish and convenient for mama and adds an extra layer of warmth for baby! Great to wear with all front a back carriers as poncho could be flipped around, though I find it easier to have baby on front for in-out of car, home, shops, errands, etc. But with a rounded neck, it could easily be reversed for a back carry position as well.

If interested, email me for details! (mommmy@nakitababy.com) and don’t forget to check out the Mei Tai Giveaway happening in just 4 days!!!

So we are in the final week of the Nakita Baby Mei Tai Giveaway!

It’s been so great to receive all of the feedback, comments and stories! I have even exchanged an email or two with some of you regarding your posts! Receiving a new post always puts a smile on my face. Not only am I thrilled that people are interested in this beauty of a Mei Tai, but there are so many great parents out there wearing their kiddos! It’s really awesome to see.

I am so excited to see who will win the giveaway! I am pretty certain that we will tape the random drawing and post the video for all to see!

Happy Holidays to all!
Keep those posts coming in!

Regards,
Nakita Baby

In my opinion, the way we choose to parent our child(ren) is largely based on if we are brave enough to follow our intuition. But in each our lives, someone or something has given us added gumption to truly follow our deep-seated instincts. Experiences in our lives show us the beauty of what evolves from parenting peacefully and respectfully with our child(ren).

For me, I’d have to say that the time I spent in the Gambia was more inspirational than I would have even known at the time that I had experienced it. My life there was no other than I had ever imagined I’d ever personally experience, and yet I don’t think I truly knew the impact that it would have on me lifelong.

When I was pregnant with my first child, I truly thought I knew exactly what I was doing and what I’d expect to happen, but after the birth of our first son, ALL of that was thrown out the window. What truly felt instinctively right for us was not how I had been raised, and not even how I had helped raise other children I nannied for years! It was that of how mothers in the Gambia raised their babies, and the beauty of true culture and tradition… attachment… that is impossible to alter in this amazing country.

Babywearing was most heavily introduced to me in the Gambia, and so I saw it only fit to create a set of Mei Tai’s made of batiks from an artisan in the Gambia, depicting mothers carrying their precious babes. I want to share this cross-cultural gift with a lucky winner/reader of Nakita Baby!

So here’s the deal….

I’m looking for readers to submit a comment about something special about their parenting. It could be how attachment parenting has impacted your lives, how you chose this parenting path for your family, what are some of your most special aspects of parenting peacefully, and/or anything else you’d like to add in your comment posting!

Be the lucky comment poster who will win this beautiful Mei Tai!

- In the spirit of the season and the nature of this post, I WILL accept International submissions and send this carrier out to you!

- Please include your email address so I may contact you for mailing information!

- Lucky winner will be randomly chosen on New Year’s Eve! (and shipped out to you as soon as I receive your contact information… so please add: mommy@nakitababy.com to your address book so I don’t default to spam).

I’m eager to hear from all of you lovely families out there!

Happy Holidays!

When you have a moment, kick back, relax and take this in:

I find it hard not to get totally engrossed in the amazing beauty of the world around us. It’s mind-blowing to me, the differences and uniqueness of so many amazing cultures out there, yet really… we are all one. We all want the same for our families, our children. Love, peace, happiness and good health. We all struggle to find ways to nurture this, and more, into our busy day-to-day lives. Beauty is in every moment of each day and taking the time to absorb it is what makes life really worth it.

I can’t help but absorb the natural beauty in babywearing around the world, and wonder, “why is it so ‘hard’ for Americans to embrace this natural part of life?” There are not many of us out there who will ‘seize these cherished moments’… who will hold baby close for as long as he/she desires… who will answer to their needs with out fear of “spoiling them”… who respect them as true unique individuals with feelings and thoughts… who want to create a loving, secure and attached bond that will last a lifetime (and with much hope for generations on end)…

Babywearing is a gift to us as parents. Seize this time and enjoy that closeness you will long for years from now! You can never spoil your child from holding him/her so close that love is penetrating! Babywearing…. comes with a money back guarantee in my book!

I currently have three Mei Tai’s for sale now…. ready to go to a warm and loving family wanting to carry their babe close to their hearts!

The first two are brand new, made farely recently. Gorgeous West African batiks from The Gambia depicting a mother carrying child on her back. The first pictured below is of beautiful blues and greens and set on a black base with black straps. It is brand new, and the batik is original art work, so this is selling for $85. The second pictured is of amazing oranges and earth tones set on an off-white background, also selling for $85.

Both have extra wide straps for more comfort and durability. The shoulder straps have light padding in them as well. Please email me with questions or other details: mommy@nakitababy.com

This last available Mei Tai is one of my firsts. I love this vibarant reds, oranges and yellows set on a natural cotton. It’s a favorite, but I have so many carrying options, I am parting ways. Since it is (well) used (therefore needs a nice washing, on your penny), I will sell this one for just $30. It has lot’s of life left. No tears or anything…. just lot’s of love to pass your way. Feel free to email with questions.

If you are not local (Chicago area), or simply want to have it sent to you, I will mail for a flat rate of $5.00 each.
Thanks!!!
(and stay tuned for more!)

So this is the biggest moment! The moment I’ve been waiting for…. maybe just the right ‘push’ needed to set things up and really get things rolling! Jarjusey Kunda is branching out!

I have for the last several years been making ring slings and mei tai’s for mama’s and baby’s. I can’t put into words what precious gift it is to give to a family who truly enjoys the warmth, attachment and every single second of ‘wearing your baby’. I have always made slings on a per-order request and thought for sure “one day” I would expand to making this a small family business for us. And now that time has seemed to be creeping up on us little by little!

Orders have started coming in more regularly. Return and repeat customers buying a precious sling for someone they know is pregnant, expecting their first babe! And just recently…. and ‘larger’ order from New Mexico! Yea!

What a pure joy! I love using my hands for all sorts of handicrafts, but this type of gift is too precious to give. I feel lucky to be a part of the newest movement in the States. At a time that families need this most of all. Wearing babies…. well, again, I just don’t know if I can put into words how vitally important it is not only for the babies, but the parents AND their relationship! I have been given a gift of being able to provide the biggest gift of all…. Unique and priceless all in one.

So, as Nakita Baby gets off the ground, orders can be placed just by calling (847.271.0965) or emailing me at: mommy@nakitababy.com. And keep coming back for updates on what’s-what around here! There will be new items added! Can’t wait to share them with you!

Stress….

Dec. 2, 2007 No Comments Posted under: blog

Maybe that’s not the best word to describe things… but I am quite literally so busy I feel my head is currently swimming. It seems this way every year around Thanksgiving. We had a wonderful day at mom’s. Uncle P and Aunt J were able to join us this year and that was quite nice to see them, since we had not since D’s birthday! We were eager and excited to break the big news to them, but it turned out that mom had already sprung a leak on the newest little one baking in the oven. A really beautiful spread, as usual. Mom usually goes way out for T-giving and we enjoy to the fullest!

And then it seems after that ‘official’ day, the time clock starts ticking. The pressure to the get the x-mas shopping done early (which never seems to be… I am always the one in the stores the day before x-mas)! And the holiday card/ornament we send out each year. Seems like earlier and earlier I need to get these things rolling each year. = )

Let’s see, karate is coming to an end and K tests for his yellow strip belt this week. He is very very excited about that! With the end of this class comes the new registration of classes for both he and D. He would like to continue with karate and D would love to do ice skating and gymnastics. Another ‘to do’ on the list is registration!

This past week we had a baby-check and I have finally decided this is not the best provider for us. I am very torn at what to do at this point because it seems like I can not find my ‘happy medium’. Home birth offers the family-ness that I crave for this huge event, and hospital provides the ’security’ I need for my psychological during the process of labor. And of course, birthing centers are non-existent in Illinois, and that would be the perfect thing I need and long for this third baby process. So…. in the midst of searching for a new provider as we are half way through at this point! Time is ticking to find ‘the one’ and establish a nice relationship with them before due date.

I’ve been trying to pour myself into my creative arts business, and have tons of things happening there. I have batiks I’m trying to sell, and a handful of mei tais. I have a t-shirt/shirt design that I would like to hammer out and get going on as well. Of course, attempting to do this admist trying to be ready for the holiday! I do feel like I have put this off for longer than I can now. As CCAP is not feeling as secure of a position lately. I am really hoping I get at least one more year out of the position, but really feeling like there is no guarantee that will happen. In that venue there are a few things this month, to include two conference calls, and an orientation, which I have never had to attend to in December of all months. So that seems like a really busy work-schedule for this time of the year.

But of course we have tons of fun things coming up. We are going to a “mad science” party this week, and a holiday cookie exchange coming up. Then there is the 20 week ultrasound where we get to see the little bugger! I am VERY excited about that one. One of my most favorite mildstones of pregnancy. I remember clearly seeing K’s profile for the first time and saying “a mini SBJ!!” I knew then it was a boy, eventhough we never officially found out. I felt the exact about D’s too… She was identical to K’s profile, but there was something about the petite-ness of her profile that just really threw my gut into girl-mode. So I am very excited to see this little one and see what he/she may look like… who he/she will resemble. Exciting times.

This afternoon I have the luxury of ‘mama’s tea’ and so looking forward to an hour or two of veggin’ with the mama’s and sippin’ on something warm. We’ve just been hit with our first cold snow/ice storm! A nice little afternoon planned with friends! Then back to the hectic = )

All is good, can’t complain! What’s life if not busy (but FUN!) !?
