TRIPLE – H
10:55AM – 11:55AM

Homeschoolers Hobbies Heightened (or Triple-H) is continuing on this session! We had such a blast learning new crafts, hobbies and interests, it was unanimous to continue onward! Triple-H is a class designed to allow homeschooled tweens and teens to take the reins in organizing and leading their own one day workshop for their peers on a favorite topic, hobby, skill or other. Participants must register to partake in the six weeks, but participants may also be inspired to run a workshop of their own in the near future! This class will continue on through May (if the interest is high enough) and so there are plenty of opportunities to lead a workshop of personal interest! The perfect opportunity to try out a teaching gig without the full six week commitment!

Our past session we thoroughly enjoyed learning about duct tape crafting, polymer clay miniatures, sushi making, rainbow looms, felting and much more! We look forward to a slew of new topics in the six weeks to come! Registration is required to participate, however only a supply fee will be collected to help student-teachers cover their material costs. You do not have to teach to participate in the classes! Any and all participants are welcome to partake in the fun workshops!

Instructor Information: Amy Jarjusey, an unschooling mom of four, is coordinating this venue for kids to be able to gain experience in sharing their interests and passions in front of a group of peers as well as share something important and of high-interest to them. She has seen her two oldest children blossom at AJCW as student-teachers and feels many homeschool kids have amazing things to share with their community.

Class geared toward ages: 9 years and older.
Class cost per student: Supply fee only.
Supply fee: $30.
Drop-in fee: $10, *only* if the class is not at full capacity. Check in with instructor prior to drop-in is *required.

KNIT A TWIG
10:55AM – 11:55AM

We will be knitting “twig’ by Tiny Owl Knits.  Twig is a cowl that has two layers.  The outside is knit with a super bulky weight yarn and has a cable pattern.  A lining is then knit with a super soft fluffy yarn, and then sewed inside the cable knit cowl.  This makes for a very warm cowl that is very soft against the skin.  If the project is completed before the 6 weeks finish, we will pick an individual project to work on to finish out the class.

CHAIN MAILLE – PICK YOUR PROJECT STUDIO
1:4OPM – 2:40PM

This Studio class will allow each student to select in what direction he/she would like to go with chainmailling. There are many more chain maille weaves to learn. There are a variety of wireworking and beading techniques which can be incorporated to make stunning jewelry or sculptural pieces. Chain maille armor can be studied and made. We can explore differences in metals, wire gauges, aspect ratio, how rings are made, etc. for those who want to understand the mechanics of chain maille and better be able to develop their own styles.

Each student will choose his/her own projects. Help will be given when needed and fun will be had by all.

Instructor Information: Martha Campbell – The first time I saw chain maille, I knew it was going to be my creative outlet of choice. It combines my love of problem solving and of metals with fine motor skills. It is beautiful and complicated but simply made one ring at a time. I’ve been interested in chain maille for years and have taken classes from many of the best maillers in the country. I would be delighted to teach you and yours what I know and help you learn to create whatever you wish to weave with small metal rings.

Class geared toward ages: 9 years to adult – This one hour class is set up for experienced chainmaillers only. Please contact me with any questions.
Class cost: $35 + supply fee.
Supply fee: Supply fee will be based on cost of supplies used. The instructor can acquire all supplies or students can provide their own.
Prerequisites for this class: In order for this class to get off to a good start, it would behoove students to get in touch with the instructor about their specific interests as soon as possible. I have many new ideas for some really interesting projects.

TODAY’S NEWS & YOUR WORLD
1:4OPM – 2:40PM

News reports should make us think, and expand our horizons. News should teach us about the world around us, and help us find our place in it. What news we choose to digest creates our reality and opinion of the world we live in.

Students will learn about different sources of news, and how to determine what information is important to them. They will learn to communicate with others about news stories. They will also have the opportunity to share opinions on topics presented in a respectful, open environment.  In doing so, students will practice skills in research, writing and public speaking. They gain confidence by sharing their opinions and ideas. In the end, students will learn how use news to become more informed participants in our world.

Note: there will be little censorship (if any) on news subjects covered in this class. If it is important to the kids, then we want to hear about it and discuss it. We will have the kids agree on the ground rules of what is appropriate on the first day of class, and in doing so I hope to allow the freedom to share, as well as the comfort of all participants. Please email me with any questions regarding content.

Instructor Information: This class is being facilitated by Jen Kafizov, former preschool teacher and homeschool mom of 2. As a self professed news junkie, it is time I give my own kids a break, and share this passion with others! I have always always loved current events, and public speaking. I enjoy a good conversation, with respect for diversity of thought. I believe we all learn best when we really listen to the ideas and opinions of others. Nothing is more exciting than watching kids learn, and I am excited to share my enthusiasm for current events, and being knowledgeable about the world around us.

Class geared toward ages: suggested 10 years and above.
Class cost: $40 per student, $20 additional siblings.
Drop-in: There will be no drop ins for this class.
